Best Books I Read in 2018
What were the best books I read in 2018? This is actually a pretty hard question because I feel like I missed out on a few of the best because I just didn’t have much time to read… But I do believe I was able to read some truly great books last year. I’m not sure if I actually have 10…seeing how I only read 15 all year…so instead, I will list my top 3! Much more manageable!
BEST BOOKS I READ IN 2018
BEST BOOKS I READ IN 2018

By far my #1 book of 2018! And a def reread sometime soon. There was soo much good here! I loved hearing about the boat and living as a whaler, although the actual whale hunting/harvesting was beyond disturbing. I also really loved Ishmael as a narrator, he seemed very astute and gave specific details! My favorite part though was following Captain Ahab’s motives. He literally dies and kills pretty much everyone over pride and vengeance… it’s a fascinating look into human nature…..but I am a psych major…so that’s probably why I find it so interesting. Also, Mody Dick gets away! YES!

I mean have you read Frankenstein? This books totally shocked me as far as how emotional it was. I mean obviously Frankenstein wasn’t attractive and ended up having a bad temper…but I still felt emotionally involved in his strife. Being about to learn so much about him made me feel sad and mad when he was hunted down. I guess in reality he would be consider “unnatural”…but I still wanted him to live. Nature vs Nurture for sure in this story! Loved it and a definite reread soon.

My first ever book from H.G. Wells and definitely my favorite. After reading this book H.G. Wells pretty much moved to my favorite author spot. I also read The Time Machine last year, which just solidified that move. I don’t even know why I like him…Mainly, because the writing style is so concise and detailed. It more told the story instead of constantly having dialog interjected. I really liked that. A lot of time with dialog, the author makes it confusing & i’m like “which character said that” but even the dialog here was so easy to read. I also love scifi books in general, so I real loved the story! I plan on reading and rereading all of his books.
Honorable Mentions
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Beneath the Haunting Sea by Joanna Ruth Meyer
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

Happy New Year! I’m so glad to find another Moby-Dick fan! I read it for the first time a year ago and just loved all of it. Have you seen “Moby-Dick in Pictures”? It’s a wonderful art book with 1 picture drawn for each page of the book.

That illustrated edition is beautiful. I haven’t read Moby Dick, but it makes me want to.

I recently reread Frankenstein and didn’t enjoy it as much as I did in college. I still felt lots of empathy to Frankenstein’s monster, but Frankenstein, himself, I disliked him even more.
Books In Bloom
Me too. I felt anger towards the Doctor and sadness towards the Monster. Now that I know the story, maybe i’ll try to read it again this year or next year… maybe i’ll get more out of it. š

Yay! I’m glad you found it interesting. š I think it was the perfect read for Halloween. Next year maybe Dracula! š

I have Moby Dick on my list to read. Happy to hear that you like it. I have got the feeling that it is slightly difficult to read.
I loved Frankenstein as well. Great novel with a lot of layers.

Honestly is was pretty hard. It took me over a year to finish. There are some chapters that’s about the story and some chapters about other “related” things like whale hunting or whale classification. In my future rereads I plan on skipping the non story chapters. I think it will be much easier to read that way. I feel that those chapters are necessary initially but not such much if you’ve already read them. Thanks for coming by.

Thank you for the tip. I don’t like either when the side stories or “facts” takes up the best part of the book. I will take your advice, concentrate on the story and quickly read the other “related” things more casually.

Yay. Thankful Mr Melville named each chapter, so it’s pretty easy to tell what it’s about. Hop you like it. š
