#FridayFeature Wildcat by Rebecca Hutto
Woot, it’s Feature Friday time! Today’s book is one written by a friend and coworker & it’s pretty newly released (this summer). The synopsis sounds great so I’m exited to share it with you guys and get started reading it! I’m hoping to finish it up by the end of September then move on to some other mysteries as well as more Moby Dick.
FEATURE FRIDAY
First Line

Science Fiction | 554 Pages | Pub. 2019
History is important, loyalty is everything, and everyone has at least one secret they will guard with their life; these are the only things Ember is certain of. As sure as the sky is pain blue. Everything else is a toss up—including whether or not she should still be breathing.
Being the chief advisor means Cloud is used to making tough decisions. Those decisions don’t always grant him the respect of his colonymates, but when it comes to family, the approval of the council can wait. Some rules only work when broken—and some threaten to rip his family apart by the roots.
Nearly a century ago, the appala cats of ARC united to form the Colony. After a power struggle, the Colony was divided in half, with the resulting settlements positioned on two facing mountain slopes: the East and the West.
Now, in 2110, life in the Western Colony is not easy. With every inter-colony meeting, tensions rise. A second war, one far bloodier than any fights before it, seems more inevitable by the day. However, when Westerners start to turn against each other, the father-daughter duo is forced to question everything they thought they knew. Are they really above the rogue gangs and mercenaries stalking the Lowlands, or are they no better than the wildcats?

QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Have you ever enjoyed the same book in two or more formats (print, ebook, or audiobook)?
Yes & routinely. For most of the books i read, i have the audiobook in my car for driving and the physical book in my bag for “waiting”. I noticed though that a lot of my waiting time has switched to phone games or emails though. But since my phone is frowned upon at work, i’m glad to have the physical book handy.
This post is part of the “Friday Feature” series, which consists of “First Line Friday”, hosted by Hoarding Books, “Books Beginnings”, hosted by Rose City Reader, and “The Friday 56”, hosted by Freda’s Voice. Each week we feature one books and share it’s first line as well as a line from page 56. The “Question of the Week” is hosted over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. To see all my #FLF/#BookBeginnings/#Friday56 posts, check out my archive. I’ve also recently published my Reading Stats from 2018 as well as my Blog Stats from 2018!
Thanks for coming by! What book are you featuring this week?

Happy Friday! Today I’m sharing the first lines from A Glitter of Gold by Liz Johnson: “Anne Norris knew two things for certain. Some things could be forgiven. And some things most certainly could not.”

Oh yeah, I saw that you was reading that. How are you liking it?

Hi Margaret,
It was great to have you stop by Fiction Books this week and thanks for taking the time to comment 🙂
I have to confess that science fiction and fantasy are two of my least liked genres, although I have read the odd fantasy story for an organized Blog Tour and quite enjoyed it!
It is pretty cool to be able to feature a book written by a friend and colleague though and the story seems to be attracting some very positive noise and vibes, so I wish Rebecca well for the future.
Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing 🙂

Sorry I didn’t get around yesterday! The book I shared on my blog this week was In the Shadow of Denali by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse but I am now currently reading Out of the Ashes which is the next book in the series. I just recently started but I’ll share the first line from chapter 2 here: “Gazing down at the coffin that housed his father’s physical body, Jean-Michel counted the scoops of dark soil as they hit the lid and began to cover its surface.” Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of quality reading time! 🙂

Awww, this sounds like a pretty somber chapter so far. Thanks for sharing! How did you like the first book?

I can’t tell who the protagonist is. Human or animal? I’m thrown by the reference to fur. My Friday Quotes

Hehe, it’s a colony of Cats. But from reading a few chapters, they have a lot of depth and personality.

Hehe. Really? It beautiful in real life. I think it’s a cybernetic eye. On the first page though it shows heart that is similar looking…hmm. Definitely intriguing!

I do have a soft spot for cats. 🙂 This sounds like such an interesting read! Not like anything I’ve read before. I will have to check it out. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Those dang phone games are so distracting! I hate them. And yet . . . I play them. Go figure. My commute to work is so short that listening to an audiobook is difficult. I get into it and then have to turn it off.
I hope you have a great weekend.

It’s a great story line. Very interesting. You can find it on Amazon & Kindle.
And those games are so addicting…and there are sooo many. I find my downloading a new game almost everyday. Lol. I need to get one of those phone nanny apps. Lol.
Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense
Look at that cover. I’m so intrigued. I love that this how a father-daughter dynamic at its center. Don’t see much of that. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

Oohh yeah, I’ve heard of that series but haven’t looked into it yet. How are you liking it? Hmm, interesting first line.
